The weather was warm and the shooting was
hot for our Fourth of July weekend shoot on the fifth. Twenty five
shooters enjoyed some mild but tricky winds. Competitors were pretty
evenly divided between prone and f-class with 13 and 12 shooters respectively,
and the winning scores from each side showed once again that the skills and
accuracy levels are identical.
On the prone side Buck Kliebert jumped to
the top in the combined Sharpshooter/Marksman class with a super score of
592-29x. Buck was shooting his new Porter built Palma rifle for only the second time, and
showed that he will be moving up in class very soon. In the Master/Expert
class Rob Westfall was high man with a good score of 589-23x, followed by Dave
Polan’s 582-18x. Both of these shooters will be moving up shortly
also. The High Master class saw a new winner this month, with the
appearance of Bill Jenkins in first place with a score of 593-30x and his
brother Bob Jenkins taking the Prone Match Winner title with his score of
596-32x. Congratulations to all and good shooting! The competition
is getting tighter every month.
The F-Class side proved to be just as
exciting. The F-TR class was won by Jared Louque, shooting his .308
tactical rifle to a winning score of 571-14x. The F-Open class with nine
competitors was once again our largest class. Mark
Miller shooting a Porter/Sittman smithed rifle in 6.5x284 for
the first time took second place with a score of 594-25x. First place was
taken by Don Geraci shooting a 6x47 Lapua to a score of 595-31x. The
F-Class Match Winner was our own Whitney Simoneaux shooting the smallest
cartridge (6-BR) to the biggest score of 596-38x. Congratulations to all.
Special thanks to shooters on relay 3 for
their work in the pits before and after the match. Also thanks to Rob
Westfall, Ronald Kliebert and Joe Mistretta of Palo Alto for their constant maintenance to
the range, which helps make our matches so enjoyable. Also thanks to our
target crew, Gary Henry, Dave Polan and Joey Clark for prepping the targets for
the match. Finally, thanks to the shooters for supporting our little
match and especially for your safety awareness. We sure enjoy having
y’all shoot with us!
Next match will be Saturday August 2nd.
The State Championship will be October 4th & 5th.
